INTRO TO KNITTING

Welcome to Knitting 101! We're excited to have you join our DeCal.

You can view our Info Session presentation once it is given.

Here's our Spring 2020 Syllabus: [Link]

Our general class format looks like this:

  • Announcements

  • 5 minute warm-up/review of last week's techniques

  • Lecture on knitting techniques with accompanying videos

  • Teaching/practice time in small groups with individual mentors

  • Homework swatches completed in class or at home before the next class

We will be providing practice needles and yarn, but you'll need your own materials for your final project and for the second half of the course. Here are some great places to purchase materials:

  • Joann's (El Cerrito Plaza, accessible by BART) - quality knitting needles (bamboo, metal, plastic), great beginner's yarn

  • Michael's (Emeryville) - quality knitting needles (bamboo, metal, plastic), great beginner's yarn

  • Avenue Yarns (Solano Ave, Albany) - local yarn shop that carries quality knitting needles and beginner-intermediate yarn

Remember that you'll need size 6-8 knitting needles, size 3-4 (worsted weight) yarn with no lace or frills, and a yarn needle for your knitting adventure!
